Quentin Tarintino & Robert Rodriguez Research
Both of these videos are taken from the Grindhouse Films by Quentin Tarintino & Robert Rodriguez. I want to use their style of directing in the Grindhouse movies as I feel it suits the song and lyrics well. In these films they are made to look like 70’s low budget movies. Some of the effects they use and I want to also, are listed as follows (and can be seen in the videos posted):
Black and white high contrast shots
Point of View shots
Coloured Filtres
Split Screen Shots
Extreme Close Ups
Colour Saturation (Low and High)
Use of Mirrors + Red Lighting
Dancing
Low lighting
Retro Outfits & Style
Editing to make the film reel look damaged and old
From looking at the lyrics and deciding on a video concept, I feel the video should be provocative yet not show too much, making the video have sexual innuendo without being obvious. I want it to have a retro feel and use dancing shown in the videos above.
Lyrical Analysis & Ideas For Music Video
These are scans of my lyric sheet for the music video. I have analysed it and scanned it in, in three parts (these are shown in order)
These are ofcourse only ideas into what the song words make me think of. I have then used these ideas to create a music video story board and story line.

Chosen Song: Queens Of The Stone Age - The Lost Art Of Keeping A Secret
I have chosen Queens Of The Stone Age for my music video song. The song was released in 2000 on the album Rated R. Queens of the Stone Age are a rock band from Palm Desert, California, United States, who formed in 1997.

Analysis Of Music Videos. Research for planning.
This is my first analysis of a music video. As I will be soon planning my video I feel I should explore some music videos to look at the techniques used and to look for the conventions.
DEAD SWANS - PREFERRING THE WORST
I have scanned in a mind map analysis of the music video here:

A2 Media Blogging for 2009/2010 & MUSIC VIDEO HISTORY
I have started another new blog to record my research and production for A2. In our first A2 project we have been asked to research music videos and their history. From the information we gather during researching, I hope to be able to plan and produce a high standard music video to present to the class by December 2009.
MUSIC VIDEO HISTORY
"A music video is a short film or video that accompanies a complete piece of music/song. Modern music videos are primarily made and used as a marketing device intended to promote the sale of music recordings. Although the origins of music videos go back much further, they came into their own in the 1980s, when MTV based their format around the medium, and later with the launch of VH1. The term "music video" first came into popular usage in the early 1980s. Prior to that time, these works were described by various terms including "filmed insert", "promotional (promo) film"
On August 1, 1981, at 12:01 a.m., MTV: Music Television launched. The original purpose of MTV was to be "Music Television," playing music videos 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, guided by on-air personalities known as VJs, or video jockeys. The original taglines of the channel were "You'll never look at music the same way again," and "On cable. In stereo." Although the concept of playing music videos 24/7 has long been abandoned, MTV still promotes and plays a limited selection of music videos on its TV channel and web site.
